Jojoba Oil: The Skincare Magician You Didn't Know You Needed

Jojoba Oil: The Skincare Magician You Didn't Know You Needed

As you do your nightly routine before bed, it would probably frighten you to hear “Abracadabra!” coming from your vanity. But if you’re no stranger to the magic of jojoba oil, it wouldn’t be as shocking (okay, maybe a little).

Jojoba’s Journey

Jojoba oil is derived from the seeds of the jojoba plant, a shrub that grows in the arid regions of Arizona, California, and Mexico. It goes back to the 18th century and was widely used by the O'odham Native American tribe to treat ailments, suppress appetite, and so much more. Jesuit priests would use the healing oil to treat skin and scalp disorders. The Jojoba seed was also notable amongst Native American tribes in Baja, California as a food and medication.

In addition to being a liquid wax, this oil is also unique because its structure closely resembles that of the sebum (natural oil) our skin produces. This makes it a gentle and effective ingredient for a variety of skin types and concerns.

Why Jojoba Oil?

Here's why jojoba oil deserves a spot in your skincare routine:

  • Moisturizing: Jojoba oil is a natural humectant, meaning it draws moisture into the skin and helps it stay hydrated. It happens to be an emollient as well, meaning it leaves the skin feeling nice and smooth.
  • Non-comedogenic: Since jojoba oil mimics our skin's natural oils, it's less likely to clog pores, making it ideal for those with acne-prone skin.
  • Rich in antioxidants: Jojoba oil is packed with antioxidants like vitamin E that protect the skin from environmental damage.
  • Soothing: Its anti-inflammatory properties can help soothe skin conditions like eczema and rosacea.
  • Hypoallergenic: This means if you have sensitive skin, the likelihood of you being dealt a flared-up hand is low.

Incorporating Jojoba Oil into Your Skincare Routine

Now that we've established the awesomeness of jojoba oil, let's talk about how you can incorporate it into your skincare routine.

As a Cleanser

Jojoba oil can be used as a gentle, yet effective cleanser. It can help dissolve makeup and impurities without stripping your skin of its natural oils.

As a Moisturizer

Apply a few drops of jojoba oil after your regular moisturizer to lock in hydration. It forms a protective barrier on your skin, keeping it soft and supple.

As a Body Oil

Why should your face have all the fun? Jojoba oil can be used as a body oil too. It absorbs quickly, leaving your skin feeling soft and smooth without any greasy residue.

Why Did We Start Using It?

Three years ago, before there was a body glaze or a bar of soap with our name on it, our very first product was lip gloss. When we were in the process of finding the perfect formula, we came across jojoba gel (which we called Joh - Joh - Buh at the time). Despite our incorrect pronunciation, this ingredient proved to be just right for us, as we were awed by its long-lasting moisture and the smooth, gliding (but not greasy) feeling it left on our lips.

A year later when we transitioned to bath and body products, we would make it a staple ingredient in our body glaze. And three years later, our customers are also wowed by the tricks of this ingredient and others as the glaze transforms their skin from dry to feeling nice and hydrated.

Meet Our Bare Body Glaze

Now, if you're wondering where you can find a product with this magical ingredient, look no further. Our Bare Body Glaze is one of our many luxurious body moisturizers that combines the benefits of jojoba oil with other stand-out, exotic oils and butters that bewitch the skin. It's designed to hydrate, soothe, and pamper your skin, transforming your skincare routine into a spa-like experience.

Final Thoughts

Jojoba oil is a versatile and beneficial ingredient that can help address a variety of skin concerns. Whether you have dry skin, oily skin, or anything in between, jojoba oil can be a great addition to your skincare routine. So, consider giving it a try because your skin may thank you!
